Stillwater State Park is the largest campground in the Groton State Forest and is located along the shores of Lake Groton, Boulder Beach State Park is across the lake. A popular park for family vacations, Stillwater makes a great base camp for enjoying everything the Groton Forest has to offer. Groton State Forest, with over 27,000 acres, is the second largest land block administered by the Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation. The forest contains over 17 miles of hiking trails and over 20 miles of gravel roads and multi-use trails suitable for mountain biking and horseback riding
The rocky hillsides were originally cloaked in white pine, spruce, hemlock, beech, maple and birch. These were initially logged by local farmers for lumber, fuel and potash. The logging industry was large-scale for almost 100 years while the railroad operated. Today, logging is still a vital industry but has lost its dominance in favor of modern society's leisure culture.
Excellent camping, swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, biking, and picnicking. Canoe and kayaks are available to rent. Nature and interpretive programs are available at the nearby Groton Nature Center.
59 tent/RV sites, 19 lean-tos, restrooms with flush toilets, hot and cold running water and coin-operated showers. There is a swimming beach, boat launch and dock and a picnic pavilion for campers. Drinking water is available throughout the park. There is a RV sanitary dump station but there are no hookups.
