Overview

Description

Lake Shaftsbury State Park is on an 84-acre parcel surrounding the small but picturesque Lake Shaftsbury. The area operated as a private campground/cabin resort before it became a state park in 1974. It has become a popular park facility in southwestern Vermont.

Geography:

In the 1800's this area was known as Vermont Healing Springs. Mineral water, bottle and sold for its healing properties bubbled forth from a wet meadow. This meadow was later flooded, creating a pond which powered a lumber mill and transported logs from the surrounding forest. To the left of the spillway, you can sill see an old stone foundation, the remains of the sawmill.

Recreation:

Excellent group camping, swimming, boating, fishing, hiking and picnicking. Canoes, kayaks and standup paddleboards are available to rent.

Facilities:

Fully furnished rental cottage, group camping area with 15 lean-tos and large gathering area. Large beach sandy swim area and restrooms with flush toilets and hot and cold running water, picnic and play areas, snack bar concession stand, a pavilion that can seat up to 100 people with electricity, group grills, picnic tables and a nearby restroom. Drinking water is available throughout the park. No camping in or around pavilions. Camping on designated campsites only.
